The City of Tarrant’s historic, downtown has been in a downward spiral of economic decline for the past decade. Largely abandoned by retail and middle-class residents, Tarrant’s downtown has many vacant and blighted buildings that make it difficult to attract new commercial retail and potential visitors.
4 SITE and the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham recently completed a Downtown Revitalization Plan for the City of Tarrant. As an on going part of this process, 4 SITE, in partnership with Sain and Associates, have been commissioned to provide detailed plans for the revitalization and reconstruction of Ford Avenue from Highway 79 through Jackson Blvd. This plan will focus on improving the pedestrian experience, with improved paving in pedestrian crosswalks, carefully coordinated street lighting, banners, signage etc., new on-street parking, and an abundance of street trees and landscaping. It is expected that Ford Avenues rebirth will have a significant impact on the health of community of Tarrant as a whole.
